Every student learns in a unique way. That’s why the UNL Independent Study High School provides flexible learning options, allowing each student to choose their format of course delivery and grading.
Course Content Delivery: Online and/or Print
Course delivery refers to how a student accesses their course content (syllabus).
Online
Many courses are offered online, where students work from an online syllabus and handbook. Online students also have the option of purchasing course content on a CD-ROM or in a printed syllabus.
Print
Courses are offered in a print-based format, where students work from a printed syllabus and handbook. Print students also have access to the online syllabus and course management system and have the option of purchasing course content on a CD-ROM.
Coursework Submission: Online or Postal Mail
Online Submission
All students receive access to the online course management system. Evaluations, projects or tests may be submitted online when possible, through the online course management system.
Postal Mail Submission
Students choosing to submit tests, evaluations and projects by postal mail rather than online, must select the $15 Mail Processing service at the time of enrollment. By selecting this, tests are mailed to the proctor and scan cards, lesson wrappers and addressed envelopes are mailed to the student. Students will want to choose this option if proctors do not have the ability to download tests from the Internet. Due to the nature of some courses, online submission of coursework is not an option, and Mail Processing is required.
All tests, whether submitted online or by mail, are administered by an approved proctor.
Grading Options: Projects or No Projects
When available, students may choose to enroll in a course that includes projects as part of the grading options. Students who have difficulty testing, like to explore specific topics in more depth, want additional opportunities to master the coursework, or wish to enhance their writing skills as they prepare for college will find the courses with project(s) an excellent choice. This selection is made at the time of enrollment.
Please note: Grading options are noted in the course description. Courses WITH projects are NCAA approved and should be selected for student athletes
All courses feature objective evaluations, tests and self-check activities
